The accountability court later put off hearing of the Avenfield reference against former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired Captain Safdar till April 20.

Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the trial proceeding in the federal capital. Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law appeared before the court.

Advocate Amjad Pervez, resumed cross-examination of star witness Wajid Zia, head of the Panama Joint Investigation Team where he had left off a day earlier.

During his cross-examination, Zia informed the judge about letters written to the British authorities under Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) for cooperation and information on the Avenfield properties.

He said the JIT sought verified documents of Neilson and Nescoll, details of the beneficiary of the companies, and registered directors and shareholders.

After the lawyer completed cross-examination of the witness, the court adjourned the case until April 20 and directed JIT head to appear for testimony in Al Azizia Steel Mills reference on April 23.

As per Avenfield Properties reference, Sharif, his brood and his son-in-law, retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, had purchased four flats in Park Lane, UK, without legitimate financial means. However, the former premier and his family members have consistently claimed that they were legally gained.
