Battle for Azeroth increases the level cap to 120 and introduces several new playable races.
Blizzard knows that in order to keep the number of players logging into World of Warcraft every day healthy, it needs to continue producing new content. That’s why we are now talking about the MMO’s seventh major content expansion called Battle for Azeroth.
Pre-orders for the expansion went live at the end of January and instantly unlocked a level 110 character boost, as well as early access to the first four new Allied Races.
As usual, multiple editions are being offered with the standard physical or digital edition costing $49.99. A Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 with a number of in-game bonuses, and a retail exclusive Collector’s Edition for $99.99. For that $100, you get all the Digital Deluxe extras as well as a two-sided emblem, hardcover double-sided book including two World of Warcraft novellas, and the digital soundtrack of Battle for Azeroth.
You still have plenty of time to decide which edition to purchase as Blizzard announced the game’s release date as August 14. I suspect the Collector’s Edition will be almost impossible to find now, though. At least, not without a hefty premium attached at auction.
In terms of new stuff Battle for Azeroth adds, expect the level cap to rise to 120, meaning 10 new levels to quest your way through. There’s two fabled kingdoms to explore (Zandalar for the Horde and Kul Tiras for the Alliance), and several new Allied Races to recruit offering unique racial abilities. Group battles can be enjoyed on the Island Expeditions, which Blizzard describes as “an ever-changing array of enemies, environments, and objectives,” and there’s also 20-player cooperative battles to be had in Warfront. Finally, there’s a new neck piece allowing armor to be customized with new powers and traits.
If you’re a regular player of World of Warcraft, chances are you already pre-purchased this 7th expansion. But seeing as you could do that since the end of January, it’s surprising Blizzard is keeping everyone waiting until mid-August to actually enjoy the new content.
