Time to update your bio, Instagram users.
The Facebook-owned social network just announced that you can now add working links to hashtags and other accounts in your bio. To try it out, hit the Edit Profile button, go to the Bio section, and start typing what want to link, starting with the # symbol for a hashtag or @ for a profile.
As you type, Instagram will show you a list of recommended hashtags and accounts; select the one you want, press Done, and the hashtag or profile will be linked in your bio. That way, when someone visits your profile, they can tap on those links.
“With hashtag and profile links in your bio, you can express yourself and your interests right in your profile,” Instagram wrote in a blog post. “Whether you’re a #guitarlover, into #pencilsketching or have a #makeuptutorial account, now you can link to any hashtag or profile you want.”
If someone else mentions you in their profile bio, you’ll receive a notification and can opt to remove the link, if you so choose. In this case, your handle will remain in their bio, but the link won’t work.
This new feature comes after Instagram in December started letting uses follow hashtags. When you visit a hashtag page like #technology, for instance, tap the new “follow” button up top to start seeing top posts from that tag in your feed and some of the latest stories in your stories bar. If posts from a certain hashtag get overwhelming, you can easily unfollow it at any time.
