Lock the doors, flash the lights, honk the horn, check the charge level, and find your Model 3 with a voice command.
If you own a Tesla Model S or Model X, then you’ve been able to enjoy Siri integration since November last year. However, Model 3 owners are now also gaining the ability to voice control their electric vehicle using Apple’s intelligent voice assistant.
As Electrek reports , the latest version for the Tesla iOS app (v3.3.3) was released today and unlocks Siri for the Model 3, as well as fixing a number of bugs in the app and adding some minor unspecified improvements.
Having access to voice control for your car through an iPhone is surprisingly useful. You can lock or unlock the vehicle, heat or cool it before you drive, flash the lights and honk the horn, open or close the panoramic roof if you have one, check the charge progress in real-time, and summon your Tesla from your garage if the vehicle has Autopilot.
One final and very useful feature is the ability to locate your Tesla. This is great if you forgot where you parked, but also if it is stolen as the app allows movement tracking.
Based on Electrek’s testing, there’s still a number of bugs to work out of the system. For example, trying to unlock a Model 3 by saying “unlock my car” can result in Siri informing your the headlights couldn’t be operated. Even so, the functionality is sure to improve and expand as Tesla’s app development team continue to work on the integration.
