Both the Doorbell Cam and Doorbell Cam Pro now come with a ‘Basic August Video Recording subscription,’ which offers 24 hours of video storage for free.
When PCMag reviewed the August Doorbell Cam Pro late last year, we noted that “a basic plan with free access to the last 24 hours of video would be a nice option.”
Now, August has announced exactly that. The company on Thursday said the Doorbell Cam and Doorbell Cam Pro now come with a “Basic August Video Recording subscription,” which offers 24 hours of video storage for free. We won’t take full credit for this, but we might have been partially responsible.
This perk is available for all current and new customers, August said. The smart home device maker will continue to offer a Premium Video Record subscription with 30 days of storage for $4.99 per month or $49.99 a year.
In a statement, August Home CEO Jason Johnson said the company is offering this new perk since “video recording is such an important feature for video doorbells.”
“Now if you miss a motion notification or experience a porch pirate walking off with a package from your doorstep, you can access and review the stored video from the August app,” he said in a statement.
The $199 Doorbell Cam Pro earned an “excellent” rating in PCMag’s review, and our coveted Editors’ Choice Award. We gave the device props for its “excellent HD video quality,” “clear two-way audio,” and integration with other August devices.
“The August Doorbell Cam Pro delivers sharp, colorful HD video and offers motion detection with Hindsight recording so you won’t miss a thing,” we wrote. The Hindsight feature captures 10 seconds of activity before a motion event occurs.
