A tweet from Blizzard showing a Diablo night light being switched on. Subtle.
Blizzard Entertainment has created some of the most successful IP in video games, with Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo being the most prominent. The company generates billions in revenue each year and can afford to work on whatever it wants to. And right now that seems to be a port of Diablo III for the Nintendo Switch.
As Eurogamer reports, Blizzard tweeted the video you can watch below along with the message “Sweet dreams.” The video shows a Diablo-themed night light being switched off and then on again. A not so subtle reference to Diablo III heading to the Switch, perhaps? It surely couldn’t be anything else, could it?

Releasing old games on a new platform is always a bit of a risk as the developer really needs to know it will sell well enough to make the work of porting the game worthwhile. But in designing the Switch as a hybrid platform, Nintendo has made the decision to port games much easier. This isn’t just a port of Diablo III on the Switch, it’s Diablo III being playable on-the-go due to the Switch doubling as a handheld. Blizzard is working on portable Diablo!
I doubt we’ll hear anymore about this project until Blizzard is ready to show the game running. But the fact it is being teased suggests an announcement and launch date can’t be too far off.
Diablo III originally launched on PC and Mac in May 2012, then on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, and most recently on PS4 and Xbox One in August 2014. So a Switch launch this year between May and September, then?
