You may have forgotten about Apple’s multi-device wireless charging mat, but it’s now expected to launch next month.

Apple AirPower wireless charging mat

Apple’s iPhone event in September last year was all about the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus until the iPhone X was revealed. The X is what people and the media have been focused on ever since, but there was another new product announced which you’d be forgiven for forgetting about. Apple has made its own wireless charging mat called the AirPower.

The killer feature of AirPower is its ability to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods charging case all at the same time. So if you’re an Apple devotee, the AirPower is likely a perfect charging solution. The problem being, it hasn’t launched yet and Apple isn’t revealing when it will be available or for how much.

As 9To5Mac reports, Apple is now expected to launch the AirPower at some point in March. Initially, the wireless charging base will be sold through Apple’s own retail stores and Best Buy. Of course, the AirPower may not be the only accessory you need to purchase to take full advantage of wireless charging.

The mat will only be compatible with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X. if you have AirPods, you’ll need to upgrade to a wireless charging carry case which Apple has yet to launch. The Apple Watch Series 3 has been confirmed to already work with some wireless chargers, but not others. The AirPower will of course offer guaranteed compatibility for your third-generation Apple smartwatch.

The price of the AirPower is unknown, but as this is an official Apple product it certainly won’t be cheap. The Apple Store currently offers Mophie and Belkin wireless charging bases for $59.95 each, but they can only charge one device at a time . As for the new wireless charging AirPods case, Apple currently charges $69 to replace the standard case, so expect to pay more than that. $99 perhaps?

If wireless charging AirPods sound good to you, don’t forget Apple is expected to refresh its wireless earphones with a new model including voice controller Siri and water resistance later this year. It seems likely the case for this new model will include wireless charging as standard.
