Liverpool agreed a deal with Leipzig last summer with Keita set to join a year later.

There have been suggestions this past week that Liverpool could look to fast-track the transfer following Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona.

He would be unable to play in the Champions League for the Reds should he join this month but he would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Reds fans have been keeping on eye on his performances in the Bundesliga this season.

The 22-year-old hasn’t enjoyed his best campaign in front of goal, scoring just three times in the league but did net twice in the Champions League group stages.

There have been accusations in Germany his performances have dipped because he is only focussed on his move to Anfield.

But Keita has promised Liverpool fans to be the best player on the park when he pulls on the famous red kit for the first time.

“When I am on the field, I want to think that I am the best,” Keita told the Sunday Mirror.

“It’s not for myself, it’s for the team.

“Once I do that, I can feel good.”

The Guinea international began his career with his hometown club Horoya at the age of nine before embarking in his European journey in 2012 when he joined then Ligue 2 side FC Istres.

He was swiftly picked up by Red Bull Salzburg where he established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders before earning a move to Leipzig in 2016 and nearly helped them knock Bayern Munich off their perch at the top of German football.
