Bakayoko was largely anonymous once again yesterday during Chelsea’s goalless draw against Leicester.
Although the midfielder has had a regular run in the first XI this term, he has failed to show why Antonio Conte splashed almost £40million on him last summer to bring him over from Monaco.
Antonio Conte has provided competition for Bakayoko by signing Ross Barkley for £15m this month.
Lampard has some underlying concerns about Bakayoko and he has urged the Frenchman to buck up his ideas.
“He’s a bit slow at times – he sticks a leg out,” Lampard told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“He has to switch on and show a reaction.
“You can have a bye when moving from another league.
“We’re in January now and he needs to starting picking it up.
“I think he might be struggling and I think it’s a confidence issue.”
Chelsea, who are third in the Premier League table, take on Norwich next in an FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday (7.45pm).
