If you’re worried about the “drain” of male talent from Hollywood, watch Season 1 of Good Girls Revolt

It’s a delightfully impassioned show about the first-ever sexual discrimination lawsuit in 1969, which was canceled last year by Amazon Studios head Roy Price, who would later be fired for sexual harassment

Yeah, talk about life imitating art imitating life. So when people like CNN reporter Dylan Byers lament the “drain” of Hollywood talent due to sexual misconduct allegations against men, think about the women’s voices that have been missing all along, thanks to the systemic abuse that kept those male predators in power in the first place.

This was a show created by women that centered around gender discrimination — and was canceled by men who allegedly perpetuated the very problems the show aimed to tackle. These men benefit from a system that keeps them in power by sweeping their sexual misdeeds under the rug, ensuring that women’s stories rarely get told, which further strengthens the dominant male power structure that excludes women in the first place.

So, when TV critic Linda Holmes says “I don’t have time to be sad about a man drain,” she’s saying the loss and systematic silencing of female voices in Hollywood by men is a far greater tragedy than the toppling of the very men who harass, undervalue, and undermine the work of women.

The hypocrisy of Price canceling Good Girls Revolt wasn’t lost on the show’s star, Anna Camp. She recently told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show that it was clear that the men who pulled the plug on the show never actually watched it.

Good Girls Revolt received enthusiastic reviews from critics — and a high audience score — on Rotten Tomatoes. And Price has since been criticized for passing on successful and critically acclaimed female-led shows like Big Little Lies and The Handmaid’s Tale, while elevating his own show ideas that, according to reports, were laden with misogyny

Upon GGR‘s cancellation in 2016, fans rallied for a revival. But after Price’s ouster, and given the show’s topicality, there is a renewed push from viewers, cast, crew, and press to bring it back for a second season.

You can stream Season 1 of Good Girls Revolt right now if you haven’t already – but be prepared to be left with a LOT of questions, and the fervor to join the cause for Season 2.
