Boxing news: Ricky Hatton determined to fight Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand | Boxing | Sport

Hatton quit boxing at the age of 34 back in 2012 after losing to Vyacheslav Senchenko in his hometown of Manchester.

But the 39-year-old has now admitted he would jump at the chance to take on United legend Ferdinand.

Ferdinand is training to box by former champion Richie Woodhall as he aims to establish himself in the sport.

And the England international could go up against Hatton, who is ready to end his retirement to tackle the former England hero.

“I’ll make a comeback and fight him,” he told The Sun.

Hatton also praised Ferdinand for taking a gamble and venturing into Boxing.

“Rio’s a great lad and a boxing fan,” he added.

“He wouldn’t have taken it up if he wasn’t going to give it a go and do it justice.”

Ferdinand, meanwhile, last month admitted he had no idea how long his time in the sport could last.

“I want to see if I can get a licence and become a professional and have one fight,” he said.

“I am not looking to have a career here.

“I am looking to have a professional fight and I will see where I go then.

“It might grab me and say ‘I want to stay in here’.”
